So I’ve been busy the last couple of weeks building a deck and moving…building the deck was fun, moving not so much.
The client wanted a small ground level deck between both french doors. She wanted a rectangular shape but we had to change the design once we found the septic tank right where a post was supposed to go for framing.
After discussing it, we decided to angle each end and I think the final product came out nice, but calculating all the angles took me back to high school geometry.
Since the deck is so low to the ground and the clearance on one end was less than two inches to over 8 inches on the other end, we had to move some dirt. We laid landscape fabric with pea gravel on top to help with drainage so the deck can have air flow underneath.
The railing was made with 1×4 material to mimic some picket fencing along the garage wall. I wrapped the bottom of the railing posts since we had to notch the decking around them. Check out the before and after pics.
