New Kitchen? Ikea Online Planner is Your Friend
Congratulations on planning for your new kitchen. So many families and company congregate in the kitchen so why not make it comfortable and easy to work with.
The best way to plan it out is to use the Ikea online planner. This post, we’ll cover 7 tips to get the most out of using the Ikea online planner.
Download Ikea Planner?
Many people search online for a place to download the ikea planner, but the good news is there is nothing to download. The Ikea planner is completely online.
That being said, you’ll want to create a profile to save all your hard work. Make sure you do this so you don’t lose anything if something happens. With the planner you can start with a blank slate or choose a pre-designed room that helps with giving you some ideas so you don’t have to start with a blank slate.
Now that you’ve logged in and gotten familiar with the software, keep these 7 tips in mind as you create your beautiful kitchen.
1. Get Proper Kitchen Measurements
Go ahead and grab the tape measure and a loved one and measure your kitchen. You’ll want proper measurements in the area to know exactly what you have to work with.
Keep in mind if there is a wall or area that is being knocked out or moved over as you take these measurements.
2. Embrace the New Ikea Sektion Cabinets
The Akurum kitchen cabinets have been the US cabinet mainstay for the last 20 years until they introduced the new Sektion kitchen cabinets. The new design adds some great benefits and features that we spoke about, including more cabinet sizes, filler choices, and integrated lighting.
3. Design Your Kitchen for Optimum Use
It’s called the kitchen work triangle and it allows you to get to your sink, refrigerator, and stove efficiently with as few steps between as you can. Although there are many variations to this simple work triangle, the tighter you can get it, the better work area you’ll have to make great meals in your kitchen.
Get Organized!
Add as many drawers, pull outs, and organizers as possible to keep your kitchen user friendly. If you just add the cabinets with doors and keep it bare, when it comes to filling these cabinets and drawers with your kitchenware, there’ll be little rhyme or reason to your kitchen. It will also be hard to access all those pots and pans in the back of the base cabinets.
Choose the Right Faucet, Sink, and Countertop
When adding all these items to your kitchen, make sure they fit the design and the measurements of your kitchen and that they aren’t too small for the job they’ll be doing in the kitchen.
Don’t Forget the Final Touches
As you finish adding the bigger items to your kitchen, remember to add all the final touches that make it look finished and helps with the kitchen functionality. These items include the cover panels, deco strips, and fillers to make your kitchen look finished and built in.
Mock it up!
This is the last tip, but such a crucial step in your kitchen design phase. Mock up some cabinets or boxes and put them in the space in your kitchen to make sure it works for you.
People underestimate the space needed between objects. Can you really open the refrigerator if you put it in that corner? How much space are you giving for the door openings.
The Ikea online planner is great to visualize and get a shopping list for your new kitchen, but it doesn’t do a great job of showing how your kitchen will feel when you add all those cabinets, countertops, and appliances.
Many times I’ve gone in and installed from someone’s design and the physical layout is more cramped or simply doesn’t work in the actual kitchen because a door opens the other way, the opening feels more cramped with all the new cabinets.
Going through this process, you might have to change your design, but you’ll save time, money, and frustration by testing out your new design now instead of when I’m installing it.
As always, if you have questions while going through this process, just email me.
